Finding and selling antiques. I found a Tiffany piece ,appraisal $2,100.00 (1857 hits)

Cost to me zero. It was in an old box. I love thrift and antique stores. I love to browse. One day I decided to choose an era or style and be on the lookout. I chose Limoges, Baccarat and Rosenthal Crystal.

In the meantime not really expecting to find any in a local yocal store, I kept an eye out. My recent miss was a book by Elizabeth Taylor titled. My Love Affair with Jewelry. It was selling for $195.00 dollars on the Internet. I could have brought for $3.43 cents. (This store intentionally attaches odd prices to their merchandise.). I was tired and bypassed the book.

Later I found out what the book was selling for! Another copy came in but the sales people took it. Because they do.

I have found a $3,000.00 Blue Fox in mint condition, full length for $399.00 no tax. a $300.00 Blue Fox (but cheaper quality jacket ) for $24.00 on the 25%day off, the coat was sold on the 50% day off in the thrift store no less.

A Preston Bailey Bowl, (he is the Event planner extraordinaire to the stars, doing events for the Rich and Famous) for $19.99 on the 25% off day, they normally sell for $99.00, If you are not familiar with Mr. Bailey and his eye for beautiful things you are in for a treat.

In these economic times selling items is a way to pay an extra bill or treat yourself or invest.

While rummaging through boxes I came across of piece of old tarnished silver. Or it looked like silver. It was a slab. An 11" inch long, 2"'inch wide piece of metal with a design that I thought was a peacock. I took it to an auction road traveling event, and was offered $200.00 dollars on the spot. That woke me up!! I searched on the Internet, but I could not describe it.

I moved on, the house was painted and three years later, (yesterday) I found it inside a book I decided to read. this time I was prepared. I had found an auction site that dealt in silver. The piece looks like it has a keyhole, which prompted me to consider that it was a metal plate for a door.

On the back it had Tiffany & Co. Hmmmm. Sterling, an M and the numbers 657. I put those identifiers on the Silver webpage and up came a similar piece. Apparently it was made in 1857. It sold for over $2,100.00 in 2009. This is a new venture for me, so before I call the auctioneers I have some research to do!

I discovered it is called a Check Cutter. That's all I know for now. Upstate NY and Penn have a lot of antique stores, it's a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Hope your weekend was nice, I went to a fabulous Teaberry Party in an old victorian house, and a "Skinny Cow" event..how fun!

p.s. I do other things than study law, write about politics, race, music and fashion.
